About Whissgig
“Whiss” is an old Wiltshire word meaning to have fun or lark about, while “gig” covers the musical side. The “whizz” element captures the quick transitions between our rotating sets of performers. This perfectly describes what Whissgig is all about – showcasing the remarkable depth of musical talent both in Devizes and the surrounding areas in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
We provide a platform where musicians can perform, develop their skills, and hopefully attract future bookings. Our volunteer performers share their passion for music while audiences show their appreciation through donations in the buckets provided.
When & Where
Whissgig takes place at every Devizes Farmers Market on the first Saturday of each month from 9am to 1pm, with music beginning at 10am.
Our musicians create a vibrant atmosphere for the market, and comfortable seating is provided for audiences to relax and enjoy the performances.
Getting Involved
For Musicians: Whissgig is a DOCA initiative welcoming artists of all genres. Performance slots run between 30-45 minutes, and we provide all sound equipment. To book your slot, contact John E Wright.
