What is a Festival Maker?

About Festival Makers DOCA events could not happen without the support and hard work of our wonderful team of volunteer Festival Makers. So who are they? What do they do? And could you join them? DOCA Festival Makers are local people from all walks of life, with varied skills and personalities. Some like to help out at many of our events, and some only join us for one per year. DOCA History

DOCA’s roots are firmly planted in the town’s vibrant Carnival history. There has been a Carnival in Devizes every year (excepting a few gaps for world wars!) since 1912. Originally formed to raise money for the cottage hospital it soon became one of the most popular events in the town’s calendar with early parades reaching more than a mile long! Around the time of the millennium there was a period of growth and development for carnival and related events in Devizes. The International Street Festival was introduced in 1999 and has grown to become one of the biggest and most exciting free outdoor arts

Devizes is a small market town in the heart of North Wiltshire. We encourage people travelling to our events to consider greener options if possible. By Train The closest train station to Devizes is Melksham (8 miles away). Other major stations can be found within 10-20 miles (16-32 km) of Devizes: Bath Spa, Chippenham, Salisbury, Swindon and Trowbridge. Most stations have nearby access to buses that pass through Devizes, or alternatively, there are a number of local taxi companies you can try. By Bus Buses are available regularly from surrounding towns – the main service providers include Faresaver, First Bus and Stagecoach. Please see
