Sacred Cow Workshops

In 2017, DOCA worked with Dee Moxon, an experienced Carnival Maker and lantern builder, and Caenhill Countryside Centre on a Carnival Development programme to make a life size Sacred Cow as well as individual cow headdresses to take part in Devizes Carnival.

These workshops aimed to help people develop their Carnival skills, meet some great people, and make something fantastic for Devizes Carnival. Techniques used included 3D modelling and sculpture and general carnival arts.

After a series of workshops, Paisley the cow made her debut at the Isle of Wight Mardis Gras on the 1st July 2017, and then joined the parade in our own 2017 Carnival accompanied by her herd.

Later in the year Paisley joined the Lantern Parade, this time upgraded with lights and joining our elephant and horses as our large lanterns. She joined the event alongside the thousands of lanterns that came from schools, community groups, and our open workshops that form the parade.

Dee works with the Lamplighters, a not for profit association of experienced artists and designers based in East Bristol wanting to make positive change where they live.
