Carnival Development

Sacred Carnival Cow Workshops

cow masks 1

Since the middle of May, we have been working with Dee Moxon, an experienced Carnival Maker and lantern builder, and Caenhill Countryside Centre for our latest Carnival Development programme to make a life size Sacred Cow as well as individual cow headresses for Devizes Carnival.

These workshops aimed to help people develop their Carnival skills, meet some great people, and make something fantastic for Devizes Carnival. Techniques used included 3D modelling and sculpture and general carnival arts.

After a series of workshops, Paisley the cow made her debut at the Isle of Wight Mardis Gras on the 1st July 2017, and then joined the parade in our own 2017 Carnival accompanied by her herd.

Later this year she will be joining the Lantern Parade, this time upgraded with lights and joining our elephant and horses as our large lanterns. She will parade alongside the thousands that get involved in our annual lantern workshops held alongside local schools and youth groups.

Donations to support DOCA's workshops are appreciated – please support this, and our other great projects if you can. You can donate to DOCA and it's work via our Donations page

Dee works with the Lamplighters, a not for profit association of experienced artists and designers based in East Bristol wanting to make positive change where they live.
