Carnival Development

Sacred Carnival Cow Workshops

cow masks 1

Since the middle of May, we have been working with Dee Moxon, an experienced Carnival Maker and lantern builder, and Caenhill Countryside Centre for our latest Carnival Development programme to make a life size Sacred Cow as well as individual cow headresses for Devizes Carnival.

After a series of workshops, Paisley the cow is almost ready to go! As well as appearing at this year's Devizes Carnival, DOCA has also been invited to the Isle of Wight Mardis Gras on the 1st July. A small group of Festival Makers will be making the journey to introduce Paisley to the Isle of Wight, so if you are anywhere near on the day, go along and say hi!

These workshops aimed to help people develop their Carnival skills, meet some great people, and make something fantastic for Devizes Carnival. Techniques used included 3D modelling and sculpture and general carnival arts.

There is still a chance to embrace the celebration of the 70th anniversary of India’s Independence and, of course, the animals at Caenhill including Widget the cow.  Come along to Devizes Carnival on the 2nd September to see Paisley in procession, And later in the year LED lighting will be incorporated to up cycle creations as part of Devizes Lantern Parade.

Donations to support DOCA's workshops are appreciated – please support this, and our other great projects if you can. You can donate to DOCA and it's work via our Donations page
