International Street Festival (CANCELLED FOR 2024)

Saturday 10th – Sunday 11th August 2024

It is with sadness that we announce the cancellation of the International Street Festival 2024 due to loss of funding from the Arts Council.

For over 20 years the DOCA team have worked hard to secure funding from the Arts Council England in order to run our extensive programme of community events and keep them free for everyone to enjoy. Whilst we have lost our funding for the entire Summer Programme, we are hopeful that by removing the largest and most expensive event to deliver (Street Festival), that with the support of our wonderful community, we can still go ahead with the smaller events in our calendar, namely Picnic in the Park, Carnival, and Confetti Battle & Colour Rush.

We will soon be launching Crowdfunders and other ways for you to support us in ensuring our other events still go ahead. We can’t do this without you, so please keep an eye on our website and social media for more announcements in the coming weeks.

We are hopeful that with your continued support, International Street Festival 2025 will be able to go ahead. It’s just a hiatus for this much-loved event, not the end of the story!

About International Street Festival 2023

Thousands of people joined us for last year’s International Street Festival, a fantastically energetic event which sees Devizes bustling with world-class Street Theatre and Music. This time was special, as we had an even wider selection of events to blow visitors away. Perfect for the entire family and best of all, it was again totally free. Our focus in 2023 was to offer a diverse mix of work that included a wide range of street theatre alongside some big collaborative projects that are centred around the local people of Devizes. The event ran on the Big Green (Sat 27th & Sun 28th May) and in Devizes Town Centre (Sun 28th May).

The Big Green housed a stunning 30 feet Willow Sanctuary that was built by the people of Devizes for the festival. Led by Artist Sarah Jayne, this area was home to our Saturday live music programme and a series of environmental and permaculture talks by local leading experts and activists.

Alongside this huge structure was the even bigger Flying Trapeze rig, ran by the team at Above and Beyond. This included free flying trapeze lessons for anyone 12 years old or over. Each day the Above and Beyond team took to the skies for a final spectacular performance to entertain the crowds below.

Also on the green was The Actual Reality Arcade, a life sized interactive game area for all ages inspired by classic arcade games where you bring the games to life.

Across both days, we presented the finest street theatre to entertain and delight audiences across town. This included international artists Hendrick – Jan de Stuntman Spring Time and Uili So’s Disco Balance. We will brought a series of Without Walls commissioned shows, including Motion House (WILD), Do What Ya Mama Told Ya! and Puppet Show What Happened to You?
