Elemental Encounters worked closely with a group of local residents to investigate the character of Devizes and its surroundings through a series of ‘enquiries’, each of which was based on one of the four elements – earth, air, fire and water.
The working group, which continues to meet, is called the Scribblers Club. Elemental Encounters was an action research project commissioned by DOCA and led by artist Scott Farlow.

Note: the Scribblers Club takes its name from the mutual benefit society for cloth workers that was established in Devizes in 1765.
