Alongside the spectacular parade, there are some wonderful fringe events happening around Devizes Carnival this August. Whether you fancy the quiz, a spot of skittles, a window wander or signing up for some creative workshops, scroll down for more info below…

Carnival Skittles @ The Wyvern Club – Wednesday 21st August
2024 Carnival skittles will again be played at the Wyvern Club, on Wednesday 21st August. This competition will be run as a team event, made up of 4 players, which can be of the same or mixed genders. Entry is £10 per team and all teams are asked to register between 7pm – 7.30pm, with a punctual start of 8pm. All entry fees will be used as money prizes for the top 3 teams, with a trophy awarded to the winner.

Carnival Workshops @ Parnella House – August (various dates)
We have a number of great workshops taking place during carnival week. You can come along and work on your entry, be inspired by the materials we have available, or contribute to one of our giant puppets if you don’t have your own entry to work on. Please feel free to sign up to the Facebook events to help us manage numbers and materials. Joining as an individual or family is fine too, you don’t have to be part of a formal group!

Sunday 25th August, 10:00 – 12:30 and 13:30 – 16:00 – Cardboard Community Vehicles Workshop
Join us to make your very own cardboard wearable train, bus, tractor, ambulance or boat. Together we will be crafting cardboard vehicles from recycled materials. Our aim is to have fun and create a group who will take part in the Devizes Carnival wearing our vehicles around the carnival route. Please bring any spare cardboard boxes or other materials you may have and we will provide the rest. Ages 7 upwards accompanied by adults.
Tuesday 27th August, 15:00-19:30 – Giant Puppets Workshop
Come along to help repair and dress up our giant puppets, ready to be part of the carnival parade. Family friendly, everyone welcome. Further details to follow.
Wednesday 28th August, 11:00-14:30 – Open Carnival Workshop and BYO picnic
Open Carnival workshop – bring along your own Carnival project to work on, or use the materials provided to inspire you. BYO picnic to enjoy in the Parnella House garden. Family friendly, everyone welcome. More details to follow.

Window Shopping Competition 17th – 31st August
Fun for all the family! With over 60 shops taking part this year, there’s plenty to discover from Couch Lane to Estcourt Street, Sidmouth Street to the Ginnel, and everywhere in between. Look out for objects hidden in the window displays that don’t belong… Can you spot something not sold and not in keeping with the normal window display?
Pick up a free entry form from Devizes Books or the Town Hall from 17th Aug, then return completed forms to Devizes Books by 1st Sept for a chance to win £25.
