Upholsterer + Lampshade Maker
Aimée Alice Payton blends traditional techniques with a contemporary eye for textiles to create statement upholstery and lampshades. Inspired by classic and historic furniture forms, and working with natural materials such as hair, jute, and cotton, her upholstery often features unexpected textile pairings that offer a fresh perspective on time-honoured styles. Her lampshades take on a sculptural quality through pleating, gathering, and the creative use of negative space, with coloured linings that transform the way light plays across fabric. With a background in textile history and experience in museum collections, as well as earlier studies in Theatre Design, Aimée brings a playful, thoughtful sensibility to every piece, balancing heritage with reinvention.
